The USDA has immediately suspended imports of live cattle, horses, and bison through southern U.S. border ports due to the rapid northward spread of New World Screwworm (NWS) in Mexico, aiming to protect the U.S. livestock industry and food supply. While the U.S. and Mexico continue joint eradication efforts, this suspension will be reviewed monthly, with hopes of reopening trade once containment and eradication progress are evident.

A potential second U.S. port strike was prevented as the International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance reached a tentative six-year contract agreement. The deal includes a framework that addresses automation, aiming to modernize East and Gulf coast ports while safeguarding and creating jobs. The agreement must now go through ratification by both the union's Wage Scale Committee and USMX members. The successful negotiation prevents a disruption that could have heavily impacted U.S. supply chains and the economy.
